[It has a bit more of a grainy quality than usual, but the call is still fairly clear enough.]
Hi Natsuru! I hope I'm not bothering you at a bad time. It's been four days and we're almost at our destination now, so I thought now would be a good time to check in with my friends that aren't here.
[She's sure Aefenglom is doing just fine but-- she still wants to make sure. She does miss her friends that chose to stay back, even if going for so long was her choice.]
[The girl that answers has her hair loosely braided into two plaits falling over her shoulders, and is still wearing a loose nightgown trimmed with lace and frills. In fact, it's a bit looser than it probably should be, since Natsuru has already shrunk a size or two since she bought it.]
I-It's fine! I'm just home today.
[It still feels weird calling the apartment she now shares with Monika 'home'. But that thought passes, as she starts to look more concerned about Towa's situation.]
You're... sure you're going to be okay in... that place?
[They'd talked about this already before Towa left, and it's probably too late to do anything now. But she's still worried, okay? Even though she'd seen how Towa can not only take care of herself, but also others, in the dream.]
I'm really glad-- I didn't want to bother you, but I was kind of eager to try it out now that we're so close to our destination. I would have been really sad if I wasn't able to talk to you while I was away.
[It's such a relief, in these anxious times, to just be able to sit here and talk to a friend. Even if the inevitable is going to come up, it's-- comforting. Towa's dressed for bed herself; a spaghetti strap nightgown sitting comfortably on her shoulders. Her hair is still pulled back-- but into more of a ponytail, than her usual lose bow.]
But really... I promise, I'll be fine. And I'll be back before you know it! When I get back, we should really do something. Like... a sleepover! It would be nice.
[And in truth, she'd like to give her something to look forward to, so hopefully she doesn't worry as much.]
[Natsuru's now-smaller (and thankfully no longer shrinking!) body fits so comfortably against Monika. She's happy to just sit there and cuddle for a while without worrying about what to say.
She looks curious as Monika takes out her watch, though. And then her own chimes.]
[The day had been absolutely perfect. Not only was it her first time celebrating Valentine's Day, but it was her first time spending it with someone she so dearly loved.
A date, chocolate exchange, but even if she didn't have those two, just spending the day together with Natsuru would've been enough.
[Now there's a turn of phrase guaranteed to get the small fae blushing, especially on a day like this. It had been so romantic already, and now they're back home in this... comfortable little domestic corner of their life here together.
For the briefest moment, the thought of Natsuru's old bed in what used to be her private room pops to mind. These days, it mostly gets used to lay out clothes when she's getting dressed. The room is a glorified closet. She hasn't thought of the room they now share as just Monika's for at least a month now...]
Ah... uh-huh...
[Those are the best words she can manage at first. She'd just been browsing the network on her watch anyway, and it is getting kind of late. It makes sense Monika would ask, even if it feels kind of... weird in a nice way, to hear it put like that.]
S-Sorry, I still have to change, I guess.
[She'd already taken her shoes off, and her hair down, and put away her jewelry and washed off her makeup. But the dress and stockings she'd worn on their date are still on. For a moment, she glances between the doors to the two bedrooms, wondering if she'd left a nightgown in their room or if she'd have to get one from her old room...]
[Monika had asked to meet with Natsuru because... she knew.
She knew that her girlfriend had not only seen memories of her past, but a pretty unflattering one at that. That time she was in the classroom, confessing everything about herself. Who and what she really was.
[She'd had some idea, of course... just like Monika knows Natsuru hadn't always been a girl. But knowing things had been different before they met is very different from seeing how things used to be. And this time had been much clearer than the vague feelings they've shared before through their Bond.
It wasn't like she'd imagined, exactly. She couldn't have imagined Monika so desperate she would have done things like the past her described. But she could also tell how much Monika hated seeing that again... how much it had hurt.]
You were lonely...
[That was what Natsuru saw most. She couldn't imagine being in the same kind of position.]
[It's the middle of the day and while she doesn't pass up a chance to text cute things to her girlfriend while physically being right next to her, today is a little different. They might not be near each other, but they're never far away from their thoughts.
Given how long the two of them have been a couple, it's no surprise that they've wanted to "experiment" a bit.
Nothing too outrageous, mind you. But they really have discovered the appeal of sending pictures to each other. And today's comes in the form of something Natsuru might recognize.
She doesn't wear her school uniform much these days. But when she does, it's more for the sake of a bit of "fun" than anything else. Monika's even gone as far as leaving the red ribbon around her white undershirt untied, with the shirt itself undone near the top. No doubt her girlfriend would enjoy the sight of her cleavage.]
[Monika always did tend to be the one of the two that initiated things more often. Though Natsuru made no secret about how positively she responded, even if she was nervous about reciprocating at first.
It never gets old, either. They already spend so much time together, more intimately than Natsuru ever thought was possible before taking... certain steps in their relationship. But she never fails to get flustered at a glimpse or a touch, or an affectionate message.
Checking her watch, she's met with the enticing image of Monika in her modern, very out of place in Aefenglom, school uniform, from an amazingly flattering angle that shows off quite a lot of her charm points. Even if her eyes weren't drawn to the half-undone shirt and the proud display of cleavage, there's a generous view of stocking-clad thigh as well.
It's never a secret from Monika when Natsuru feels that rush of flustered admiration of her, either. Not with their Bond giving each other some sense of how they're feeling, no matter where they are. The blue-haired fae must be making quite a spectacle of herself, gasping and getting all red in the face while clutching her watch to her chest for a moment.]
Monika! I'm outside! Someone else might have seen you!
[She loves seeing her girlfriend looking hot, but she is still not good at this new thing of theirs yet.]
[Not knowing what was happening, and whether or not her mother was safe and sound... Really, she was trying not to worry herself sick about it. And at least, she had succeeded whenever she was at the school and the kids. It was coming home and having nothing to distract her that made Monika worry once more.
She remembered the last time she'd been cut off from Chariot, and how awful it felt.
This... was becoming all too familiar for her.
It was the middle of the night and she couldn't quite fall back asleep. She turned her head, looking at a fast-asleep Natsuru. Without so much as a word, Monika grabbed her girlfriend's hand and gave it a tight squeeze.]
[The fae gave a soft, brief little moan at the touch of her hand. She didn't quite awaken, but she responded by curling in closer to Monika, and unconsciously gripping the hand in hers just as tightly.
Some of the worry Monika was feeling reflected on Natsuru's sleeping face, too. She felt it through their bond, a vague shadow mingling with her own less direct worries about what's been happening lately. Clinging to Monika's hand, even unconsciously, helped her feel grounded and safe. But it didn't calm the worries completely enough for perfectly restful sleep...]
[Unsurprisingly, it's yet another quiet evening for Monika and Natsuru in their apartment. By now, the two have long since into fallen into a bit of pattern, but that's just fine for Monika. Peace and quiet, and time together with her girlfriend is all she could really want. It's not so much a lack of ambition or anything or the sort.
She's just honestly and truly happy like this.
The two are just cuddling together and passing the time as they usually would. When out of nowhere, Monika recalled what she knows about Natsuru's background and, well...
Knowing what she does about certain genres and tropes, can't help but begin to wonder.]
Hey, so... Before, you could change your clothes whenever you transformed, right?
[It takes Natsuru a second to realize what Monika means. When they're together, she doesn't really have reasons to think about her life before this place a lot. Once she's properly thinking back, though...]
Y-Yeah... well, when I transformed into a Kämpfer, my uniform always changed too. Everyone's did... and other things could change too. Like, hair and stuff.
[Obviously, Natsuru's changes were... more dramatic than the others'. But she probably didn't need to bother mentioning that part.]
A care package. Coffee blends, a bottle of wine (?!), and a charm, marked with the symbol of Ursa Major, that bears a protective enchantment to it, fueled by cosmic mana. A note;
"I cannot thank you enough for loving my daughter, and helping be a rock for her in rough seas. This bit of my strength, in this charm, will help you do so even more, as well as keep yourself safe, as well. Please enjoy that wine on a date with Monika, okay?"
[On the day of the holiday, a plate of homemade cookies and a sample of herbal tea mysteriously appears on her doorstep. The wrapping is decorated with a fresh lily flower (actually a Fae magic product, designed to fade away from existence in a few hours) and a ribbon. The attached handwritten note reads as follows:]
Happy Modranicht! Let’s have another great year here in Aefenglom!
